Laptop freezes after few minutes of starting up.

I have an HCL laptop which on startup freezes completely. Following is what happens:

  1. The start button is pressed and the laptop switches on...
  2. The laptop surpasses the BIOS screen...
  3. The laptop is dualboot b/w Ubuntu and Windows, I can choose either...
  4. It will work for 10 mins maximum and freeze (screen freezes, nothing else works)...

Has the CPU or chipset been overheated in the past?

If you have 2 sticks of RAM try either Memtest 86 to test them or remove 1 stick at at time and see if it occurs.

hello , try removing some start up program using task manager and check to see if it a hardware problem . for any other software issue follow the post . see if any of that solves the issue .

Have you tried to overclock it because that can cause the hardware to freeze if not then have you installed anything recently if so boot in safe mode and remove it and see if that works

Thanks, Sean. I'll try doing that but overclocking might not be the reason because I refreshed both the OSs and both have nothing on them except their native apps with the freezing recurring. Thanks anyway.

@ifixyou - Thank you, that was the correct solution! :)

If you never overclocked it and have not installed apps recently then the bios may be bad and needs to repair/replaced with an update or firmware flash
