What is the purpose of my front screen?

I recently ripped the front screen of my Sony SS-CCP1 speaker. Is it necessary to replace the screen or will it still work without it?

@dallas102 , Dallas, speaker will work just fine with ripped grille material/mesh. Grilles do help some what from dust and protect from small fingers poking the speakers them selves. Find link below for Sony where you can inquire about replacement grille or other links show how to repair and where you can purchase just the material and recover your existing grilles. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Its main purpose is to protect the driver element and speaker internals (and possibly other audio components) from foreign objects while still allowing the sound to clearly pass.

The purpose of the front screen is to protect the speakers from dust and physical contact. The speaker may be used without the front screen. But be careful while handling the speaker without the protective front screen on.
