2007 MacBook Pro screen flickering, not constant

My screen is sometimes dimming ever so slightly. I recently had to buy yet another charger - this one I bought from Apple so it's legit (cords always weakened on others).

Also bottom of the screen sometimes looks as if there are tiny headlights dimmed pointing upwards. Other times it's fine, entire screen is balanced w light.

Outside on the case where the charger portal is there is some black scarring as if burned. Wondering if this needs to be replaced? or is the screen going? I've replaced the hard drive 3 times, the Nvidia GPU chip was faulty, that was done years ago, and the DVD drive. Nothing else

Any suggestions? or something I can test to see what's wrong?

The LED driver is failing. Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 LED Driver Board Replacement and here's the part: MacBook Pro 15" (Models A1226/A1260) LED Driver Board - Apple P/N 922-8143. IFIXIT only offers a used part it you search the web 'apple 922-8143' you should find other sources that might have a new part. As this is a very old system you are limited here.

This is not an easy repair as you'll need to take the display unit off to get to it.

While I loved my old Santa Rosa MacBook Pro it was time to retire it when its GPU died. I'm impressed you still have a working one. Sadly, your apps and web usage are very limited here. Maybe its time to retire yours.
