Can the SSD be switched out?
Can the SSD be switched out and upgraded ?
Is this a good question?
A1708 / EMC 2978 — Released October 2016, this entry-level MacBook Pro retains its traditional function keys (as opposed to the OLED Touch Bar). The function key version packs an Intel Core i5 and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Can the SSD be switched out and upgraded ?
Looks like the entry level 13" isn't soldered
OWC noted the following points in its teardown.
– Bottom was more difficult to remove than previous generations, but it was not glued.
– Speaker module needs to be removed to pull SSD back.
– SSD had very strong tape covering the interface port.
– Laptop automatically turns on when you open it regardless of pressing power button.
Comments:
If you review the OWC vid you'll also see the SSD module is very different from the older systems and it looks like a custom part! So, even if its removable, it will be a while before we see a 3rd party option.

@danj Yes I saw that! Hopefully the wait isn't as long as it was for the Retina models!

I would like to know where you got this information. Nothing on the internet says Soldered, but I wouldn't put it past them
