Why does my Philips Photoframe switch off right after it's turned on?

I'm using an old Philips Photoframe for a visual art project that I'm working on; it's worked fine over the past 2 days but then it started switching itself off after being turned on. It boots fine but just switches off while the home page is being loaded. Could I have turned power save on without knowing it (the photoframe worked the same time yesterday and the day before) or is there a genuine problem? The charging mechanism seems to be fine.

I've tried using the reset button, but the Photoframe still shuts itself down during the bootup process.

Hi, Does this happen if you have the charger connected or only when running on the battery? Is the Smart Power setting enabled or disabled? have you set the correct date and time?

@jayeff It appears to happen with both situations. The date and time haven't been set because I don't need them; I'm not sure if the Smart Power setting has been enabled or not because the Photoframe was working at the same times for the past few days.

In addition, I can't check if Smart Power is on or not because the Photoframe switches itself off before the home page loads.

Hi,

Thinking about your question again, I do not think that the Smart power setting will be the problem. As you have not finished 'booting', by reaching the home screen, it seems more likely that you have a firmware glitch.

As there are no firmware updates available from the Philips website to see if reloading it would solve your problem, my only suggestion now is to try and reset the device, by removing all the power from the device, (I know you said that you have already tried pressing the reset button) .

Disconnect the charger, remove the battery and then press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to remove any residual power from the device. Reinstall the battery, reconnect the charger and then see if it starts normally. If it does you may find that you have lost all your pictures as I do not know if the memory is of the volatile or non-volatile kind. I'm thinking non-volatile because they wouldn't want you to lose it if the battery went flat. Just so you are aware of the possibility.

@jayeff I'm in the process of removing the battery, which would be successful if not for a wire that connects it to the rest of a machine. As far as I can see, there isn't a way to remove it.

Ok so I've managed to get the battery out and follow the steps that you gave me (holding the power button and reconnecting the charger etc). The boot up problems still exists.

Unfortunately I cannot think of anything more to try that will resolve your problem. You could perhaps try contacting Philips and see if they can offer a solution.
