Why is my digitizer not working, iPhone 5s

My iPhone 5s was damaged by water. After the water, the LCD screen was not working properly and the digitizer was not working at all, but the phone powered still powered on. I ordered and installed the LCD and digitizer assembly from iFixit and installed the new part. Before pressing the screen back in, I powered the unit up to see if the functions of the LCD and digitizer were back. The LCD screen is worked properly, but I had no response from the digitizer. I took the screen off again to clean connections and make sure I had all cables seated properly. Once again I have the LCD screen working but not the digitizer.

If I had a another screen with a working digitizer, I would try installing that in case the new screen has a faulty digitizer, but I don't have access to another screen.

Is there anything else I can try before sending the part back?

I know that there is a good chance that something else in the phone was damaged by the water and that could be my problem. Is there a way I can troubleshoot anything more in the phone to identify the issue?

Thanks,

Dom

Your phone suffered water damage and the digitizer stopped working. You replaced the display and the replacement display's digitizer did not work. I think its safe to assume its not a problem with the display.

Its almost certain that the logic board on your phone suffered damage. Did you clean the corrosion from it? Inspect for any bad components?

Josh,

Thanks so much for your input.

I attempted to clean any visible corrosion. What corrosion I saw was minimal, but I did not remove any additional parts aside from the screen and the unplugging the battery.

Are there any specific places to check for corrosion?

Understanding that the logic board is likely damaged, I may have to give up on this repair as the cost of a replacement logic board is higher than I am willing to pay for an old phone.

Thanks.

The low cost of the 5S is good and bad. Parts are easy to get and dirt cheap, but often times its cheaper and much easier to just replace it. I have 5 iPhones 5S's sitting on my desk that I don't know if they are worth fixing or just parting out.

The good news is that you can buy a replacement logic board and be up and running in no time.
