Unable to reset/restore using sleep/wake & homes buttons.. HELP!

I recently dropped my iphone down the toilet. I scoured online and found that putting it in rice helpes, so I did that for 3 days, and last night finally managed to get it into recovery mode on itunes, and restored it. Only, since restoring, the touch screen does not work, meaning I cannot use either sliders, and I have tried a soft AND hard reset, using the sleep/wake & home buttons and nothing happens. I can't even get it to turn off, let alone get it to show the apple logo to reset. The sleep/wake button works when I press it, it shows me the slider to power off (but the touch screen is unresponsive) and the home button works also, but for some reason they will not reset my phone. HELP! If anyone can help I'd be so grateful, is it possible to do a manual reset without using the buttons? Itunes finds my phone, but tells me the sim card is not recognised (I got a new one today thinking maybe the old one was damaged) and still unresponsive. I'm happy to try another restore, I'll try anything, I've just ran out of things to try!

Oops. Let the battery drain until phone is dead. You will need to open it following guide on right of this page- take phone apart as much as you dare , desolder the battery and clean with isopropyl alcohol and soft brush. This will remove any corrosion and debris left from water( something rice will never do) including connectors/sim tray/dock/home button/cables logic/comms boards. Allow to dry overnight then reassemble and try restoring again.I' d hope the phone would improve but I wouldn't hold out huge hopes. You need to look at whether you can do the job, and whether the parts are worth the angst, as this phone is rated difficult for reason. You're looking at possibly quite an expensive fit job... The entire display ( digitiser and LCD as they're glued together ) headphone jack possibly and maybe even the dock. I think these 3 parts are worth more than current iPhone 2g resale. If you've already done a restore the phone is wiped- try selling on eBay and funding an upgrade.

I know thi is about fixing the phone and you probably can but water damage is unpredictable.

Sorry just re read your question.... It may just be the digitiser. Do the cleaning paying extra attention to it's cable/connection. Haven't had much luck on 3g when water damages digitiser but you never know. You will have to buy LCD and digitiser as one. Once digitiser works you should be able to restore. Sorry I thought you were saying home and sleep weren't working when I first read your question.

As to sim.... Give tray a %^#% good clean. Don't think it's your actual sim
