Touch ID works but home button doesn't after battery replacement
UPDATE 2: After some thorough investigation, I stumbled upon a recurring problem with 5s battery swaps. There are two microscopic resistors near the battery plug that can be easily scraped off, which are part of the circuits for the handset microphone and the home button. These are both missing on my logic board, and after trying to record a voice memo I have concluded that the handset microphone is nonfunctional. Tomorrow I will attempt to use conductive paint to make a jumper, which was a solution mentioned by many on microsoldering forums I have read today.
UPDATE 1: I was able to set up the phone without the home button. Touch ID works great, but the home button itself still doesn't work.
I bought a friend's old iPhone 5s for the purpose of fixing it up and selling it. The battery was expanding, and touch inputs were erratic and unusable. I decided to try to re-seat the various LCD connectors while I was replacing the battery, and lo and behold the LCD/digitizer issues were fixed. Unfortunately, the home button stopped working upon reassembly. I ended up completely disassembling the phone in order to clean out and fix the power button and ringer switch, but after reassembly the home button would still not work.
The button was working before I opened the phone up. I am not sure what the status of Touch ID was, and I have no way to tell if it is working now, as the phone is on the setup screen and I can't set it up without the home button. I was very meticulous and cautious while working on the phone, and there is no visible damage to any part of the home button assembly. It was never pulled or snagged.
Any ideas?
Is this a good question?
I'd try a charging port and/or different home button, What I normally see when this happens is the plate that holds the home button in was put in backwards and it breaks the cable just inside the home button.

Ok - but the phone had never been worked on before, so Apple would have had to put the plate in backwards.
And I'll try a new charging port. Hopefully I won't be screwed when it comes to Touch ID, that would really lower the resale value.
Thanks for the reply

So I was able to set up the phone without the home button. It is now usable with the assistive touch feature, which let me verify that the Touch ID is, in fact, working flawlessly. Also, the phone charges without a problem. Could this still be the Lighting port?

Does the home button still fell normal when pressed?

Yes it does. I have ensured that it's seated properly and the little metal spacer on the captive screw is facing the LCD. It feels factory new.
