A1226, will not power up

Hey everyone,

I have a macbook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo A1226.

I cannot work out what is wrong with it. It simply will not turn on. I've tried removing the battery, an resetting the PRAM etc.

When I power it up, I can hear noise in the machine, perhaps fans? Unsure what the noise is, (sometimes I can hear the optical drive) but no screen, no LED's near the power button or back lights.

The power code light will be orange/yellow at first then go to green which I presume is the batter at full charge.

If I leave the laptop going, the laptop underneath becomes really hot.

Please advise on how / what to do to diagnose the problem and what guides I should be looking at.

Thank you in advance!

Unplug it, remove the battery and hold down the start button for ten seconds. Plug it back in with out the battery and try it. Next install the battery and try. Next press the caps lock key and see if the power LED comes on. Also hook it up to an external monitor and see what you get. Let us know the results and we can go further. Please look under the Apple to "about this Mac", go to more info -> Graphics/Displays and tell us the what the video processor is. Thanks

The first things come up with nothing. Other than the what I mentioned previously. No lights at all.

The video processor is, not sure where you can find out. Took the battery out and all I get is the serial number which I just looked at:

You have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. We may be able to get you a free new logic board. Can you give us any history on the machine, any video problems?

I think it's out of warranty?

Don't think there were any video problems. The laptop just basically died. But the warranty was out and they said it was cheaper to get a new laptop (the repair place) so my mother in law bought a new laptop and said "Try fix this, you can have it"

And here I am!

This has nothing to do with the warranty. Read this: www.nvidiasettlement.com/

I'm located in Australia. Does that change anything? And I typed in my Serial and it says its eligible, the symptoms are, nothing works when I press the power on button. No LED's, just some noise coming from the computer.

I would like it fixed as soon as possible, so If I can diagnose it myself that would be good.

Do you think this is a logic board problem?

I used the blanket solution from here for a year MBP A1226 Logic Board last resort fix for nVidia video chip before he completely gave up and didnt start at all anymore... they will only replace the logicboard for free if they can turn it on and run a test (and since yours doesnt turn on - like mine - i doubt they will) but it is always worth a try!

Good Luck!
