Can I use an ssd for booting along with HDD for storage.

I bought a new laptop hp 15 ay078tx can I use an ssd for booting and keep that 1 TB HDD for storage?

Hi,

You can but it will be at the cost of losing your ODD (Optical Disc Drive).

Remove the HDD so that the SSD can sit in its' position and you will have to buy a 'caddy' so that the HDD can be installed in the ODD position.

When installing the SSD because it may be slimmer than the original HDD you may have to have it supported with some padding so as to not place too much strain on the connectors.

Just one doubt it may be silly but I don't know much about hard wares so please bear with me.

I doubt if I attach ssd to my motherboard with sata cable which cable I am gonna use to attach the HDD.

Hi, Here is a link that explains what to do.

The SSD uses the original HDD connection (it probably will not be a SATA cable but will be a fixed SATA connection.

You will have to purchase the correct HDD 'caddy' for your laptop. This also provides a fixed SATA connection that plugs into the motherboard connector.

This link only shows the principle of the procedure not what is in your laptop.
