Why is my car slowly accelerating and jerking?

when i start my car and put it in drive its hard to get it to accelerate to 30mph but my rpms go up. when it reach 30mph it jerks.

Daisha Easter what engine size, what year and what transmission? what have you checked? Last tune-up?

3.5 L 6V engine 2004 Pontiac Grand Am automatic transmission. I checked the coolant and for codes. I just got the car and haven't had a tune up

"30mph but my rpms go up." this sounds like an AT issue. Let us know if you come up with any codes from your OBD.

Daisha, to prevent further damage ,stop driving the car until you have the transmission fluid level checked as low fluid level is probable cause of what your experiencing. Your vehicle may not have a dip stick and will have to be checked by a mechanic. Have mechanic have a look , diagnose and estimate repair. Link below helps explain what is involved in checking trans. fluid level. This may not be the only cause, but is what should be checked first. Good luck.
