Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is locked

I went to settings on my sumsung s7 edge to take off my passwords off. after I did , there was somewhere written (put screen lock on) I did , thinking it was the normal screen lock we always use our finger to swip up.after I did , and my screen went off , to open it they asking for a patten password. I switched it off and on serverally yet still. Please HELP
