@chainsawmaniac skip the rice. It does not work and does not do anything but provide you with a false sense of security. It is the equivalent of doing nothing. Every hour you leave your phone in rice is an hour wasted and an hour sooner for corrosion to set in. The very first thing that you want to do is to make sure you do NOT turn your phone on, sync it or otherwise try to use it. That could make a bad situation worse. Use these guides to disassemble your phone. Then use this guide to clean your iPhone. It was written for a 3G but all the points apply to your phone as well. Of course, if you can get your hands on an ultrasonic cleaner, use that instead. Once cleaned you must replace your battery. It's a must since it will fail if you do not. After that, reassemble your phone and re-evaluate for any further damage.

possibly could be brought back to life but will need to clean the phone's logic board and may need to have a few components replaced, generally the battery will get fried when they get wet but depends on how bad it is on the inside. I recommend taking it to someone that does water treatments and get them to try and fix it. I recommend sooner rather than later as once the corrosion gets too bad there won't be anything anyone can do.
