Upgrading 802.11n to 802.11ac

The Apple developers forum confirms that the new Auto Unlock with Apple Watch feature offered in MacOS Sierra works only with an 802.11ac, not with an 802.11n.

So if you want this feature to work, you will have to replace your <2012 n with an ac board.

The question then is the part number that corresponds to the 802.11ac that works in a <2012 MBM.

Update (01/22/2017)

Yes. Mac Mini.( And some more characters to meet the minimum requirement.)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What is your exact system here and model. Your TLA MBM doesn't make sense. MacBook Mini??

Bumping this as Dan is %100 right, you'll need to find the model number.

If you don't know how, use this: https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT201894

If you post the Model number we'll be able to tell you if your MbM supports an upgraded WiFi card and what one you can upgrade it with.

Hi, I am looking at upgrading my wireless to ac also. I have validated my serial number via the link above and it confirms that I have a late 2012 Mac Mini. Can you please let me know the relevant part number for an ac wireless board?

Have either of you had any luck or figure out another solution? Thanks!

Sadly the Airport boards are very different between the 2012 and 2014 models:

There is no upgrade option available. For a short time Broadcom offered some engineering samples which some people were able to get (long since gone).

Broadcom never offered a production part as Apple went with the mini-PCI interface board in the 2014 model.
