Do I need the hard drive side plastic?

Hello, I hope you can help me. I was installing a new hard drive and when I removed the old one from my MacBook A 1181, the side plastic tabs that the drive slides into came loose on both sides. I tried to stick it back but was not successful. Do I need these plastic tabs as some kind of insulation for the hard drive or can I install the new drive in there without them. Thank you for your time and for helping me with this issue.

Respectfully,

Pat

No. That tab is simply there to help you remove the drive.
