I would recommend getting this to help diagnose what is happening: TG Pro for less that $20 US its well worth it! Take a snapshot of the main screen and post it here for us to see. It should allow us to help guide you on whats needed.

Open your macbook. Clean booth fans and renew the thermal compound from cpu and gpu. Before applying new thermal compound clean both chips and the heat sink with alcohol or isopropanol. And don´t touch the surface of the chips and the heatsink with your fingers after the cleaning.

Very true! Dust will choke the system so it can run hot if not clean.

I would hold off on the thermal paste for now until we get some better diagnostic info.

Often I see a worn out fan or bad HD SATA cable as the cause. Getting a screenshot of TG Pro should show us whats up here.
