My battery steadily got worse and now won't turn on?

My phone suddenly stopped working properly about 2 weeks ago when it began to turn off at random percentages and it has become progressively worse until for the last couple days it turned off once or twice around 90-100%. Last night it turned off as soon as I unplugged it after fully charging it to 100% and now won't turn on at all and just shows the low battery sign when I attempt to.

I have a small crack in the top left screen but I have had it for most of a year with no problems at all.

Is there anything I can do before taking it into an apple store to get the battery replaced or screen replaced as well? Thank you in advance.

You can alternatively take it to a mobile phone repair shop to get the battery and/or screen replaced. (a good / experienced one is recommended of course)

The Apple Store will only sell you a new phone unless you are under warranty. They can't fix things like this.

It sounds like part of your charging system was damaged. There are very, very tiny pieces that regulate the power in your phone and also report how full the battery is. It sounds like the part that reports battery level is broken. Its not an extremely hard fix, but it does require micro soldering tools and skills.
