Do I have water damage?

I had a glass of water behind my bed, and my ipod was near it in the back of the bed. I went into my room after school to get my ipod to charge it, and It was wet and seemed like there was water inside the screen as well. It seemed the ipod had fallen into the water, but I wasn't sure. It powered on, but as I was holding it in my hand about 3 minutes later it completely shut off. I went to charge it but charging it would not make the screen turn on. I forgot how to factory reset the ipod, so maybe it just shut off? I don't know how to fix water damage, but I've had this ipod for about 6 years now.

I really need to know what to do. It will not turn on.

Please help. I don't know how to take apart the ipod and have never dealt with something like this before.

First off if you think something is water damaged the worst thing to do is try to turn it on. Try placing it in a bag of rice the rice will dry it out and it might work, leave it in the bag of rice for at least one day then pull it out if you see any signs of water in or on the device. Under the screen being one of the best places to check if you do put it back in the rice for longer. Opening it up probably will not help if drying it in the rice didn't. If the rice work please post if doesn't I will try to assist you in finding another option

Rice does nothing. It is useless, it is the equivalent of doing nothing.

Rice will help keep the water vapor from recondensing inside the device as it dries.
