The headlight switch melted the new switch has different color wires

93 dodge dakota Wire colors are different and I cut the old one off before I discovered this. So now I don't know what goes where. I didn't leave any wire on the old one because I wanted as much wire as possible to work with. Could the new one that I got from the wrecking yard be the wrong one since the colors are different or does dodge use whatever wire they feel like on any one vehicle?

joe L, you may have gotten the wrong switch, normally wires color would not have changed especially if same year make and model. May be take a pic. of your wires or take old switch to wrecking yard to match old one up. Not positive but I believe 92 to 95 may be the same switch.

Also check all ground wires, clean and tighten as this may be cause to the melted wire you mentioned, Good luck.
