freeview box affecting tv

Hi. I have an aerial freeview box. My screen freezes, says antenna power overload, then no picture at all, says no data. I thought it was the tv but I borrowed a TV and it's starting to happen on it too. It's a bush freeview box, aerial, no satellite, I've reset the box but problem still there. Do I need a new box and why is this happening please? Thanks in advance

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi, What is the model number of your Bush STB (set top box)? Is this a new STB or has it previously worked OK with the same setup/location and has now just started to cause problems? Also have you got a masthead or any other type of amplifier installed on the aerial cable between the Bush STB and the aerial?

No amplifier, old stb and has been playing up about a year now but got worse recently. I put aerial into tge back of the box and that's it. I have a box called a picture viewer and this is connected to the tv. Maybe it's doing something.

Hi, What is the model number? Perhaps a firmware update (if one is available) may overcome the problem. Also check to see, in the STB menu whether there is an option to turn OFF antenna power or something similar. Some STBs can provide power to an aerial amp if desired. What is happening (a guess) is that the STB 'thinks' that the signal is too strong and therefore to avoid overloads it basically shuts off the signal. That is why it says 'no signal' Again this is only a guess on my part. It is definitely something to do with the box as you have already worked out. The trick is finding out how to resolve it.

if the 'picture viewer' is on a separate input to the TV from the STB then it shouldn't be causing any problems.

Will follow up tomorrow, it's getting late here.
