New screen doesn't work-- black with only a few streaks of light

Hi

I replaced my cracked phone screen and it went well until I tried to turn it on. The new screen is just dead black with three small streaks that show the back light. When I plug the old screen in (via the digitizer ribbon-- not with home button or camera) it still worked. The new screen seems to have everything installed correctly, and I reviewed the proceedure multiple times.

Is the new screen broken? It has a small red band painted on the digitizer ribbon.
