Touch ID not working

So a few months ago, my iPhone got wet, not totally but it was in my pocket and it started raining, I panicked and tried to turn it on (I know that was a mistake). But after a few days it started working however the touch id stopped working (Home button works totally fine) So I was wondering how could I get the touch ID to start working again? I went to the Apple guys but they said that they would have to replace the entire phone and I don't want to. Will replacing the flex cable solve the problem?

Nobody can guarantee anything because we cannot test or even see your phone. You have to locate the root cause yourself, either by swapping parts to narrow it down or measure the parts to locate the point of failure.

Incidentally, I highly doubt that the cable is the cause. It is very likely that something on the board is damaged due to corrosion or short circuit. Disassembly the device and clean the board to get rid of any corrosion is a start.

It's been like 3 months now. Do you think trying to clean it now would help?

Doubt it. I recommend sending it to a professional.
