What is the reason for putting the 2 GB board in? Is your current graphics card burnt?

by

no! the whole card, just want to increase the amount of video memory

by

just have a card from the new imac 27

I don't think I'm following you here?

You want to physically add VRAM to the graphics board? Or you want to swap out the current graphics card with another one.

by

It would be helpful understanding why you think you need this much VRAM.

The only option here is to swap out the graphics card for a replacement unit the system was designed to for if yours is not working any more. As to getting one with 2 MB of RAM, Apple never made one for this system.

As to using the 27" iMac model's card, not so simple. You would need to remanufacture the heat sink in your current system to fit the 27" GPU card. I don't know of any one who has tried this so you're on your own.

To be truthful, I don't think you're going to gain that much given the rest of the systems limitations trying to push this to 2 GB, I could see going to 1 GB though.

A better direction here would be just upgrading the systems RAM instead.

This system can handle up to 32 GB of RAM! While I wouldn't go that far, 16 GB should make a bigger difference.

Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 RAM Replacement

I would start there.
