Why do I have horizontal lines

Block Image

I have a mid 2014 macbook pro and every once in a while there will be horozontal lines moving from top to bottom. I close the laptop, open it back up and they are gone for a few seconds, but then it continues to misbehave. Sometimes it will go days without doing it, and then again, for a few hours on and off.. I tried connecting it to an external monitor and i could see the display perfectly even when the laptop screen was acting up.. ive tried to upload a pic of it..

hope someone has a suggestions..
