Digitizer not completely functional after replacement, faulty port?

I replaced the digitizer on a iPhone 3g. The 1st connector doesnt sit properly. I looked at pictures of a 3gs vs. 3g connector so I am sure mine is for a 3g. attempted to use tape to hold it down but some dead spots still are present. would cleaning the ports help? any solutions will help.

check for bent pins/dirt not allowing connection. connector 1 can be tricky, shouldn't require undue pressure but you should be able to look from the side and see whether you are lined up right as you are attaching.

3g and 3gs are very similar to look at but connectors are different lengths. measure the one on the motherboard and compare to that on the lcd...then you'll know if you just aren't lining them up right or you've ordered/given the wrong part.
