Display not turning on after ram upgrade

Hello. I recently opened up my iMac 13,1 21.5" late 2012 to upgrade the ram as well as exchange the HHD with SSD. When I put everything back together and try to boot up all I hear is the chime but the display does not turn on. Any suggestions before I open it up again? Thanks.

Update (09/20/2016)

Update: I took the iMac to a Mac repair shop here in Austin. They said I most likely shorted out the logic board installing the new ram. Apparently iMacs don't like being upgraded. The shop won't even upgrade the ram because of this. So now I sit here with a dead computer, an SSD, and new ram that are totally worthless. Thanks OWC!

@gr8fl4295 - Derick, I feel your pain here! Sadly, these systems are just a bear to open and not forgiving for any mistakes.

I use a lot of OWC stuff with no problems! So I don't think they stuck it to you. On the other-hand I've kicked my self for a dumb move which killed a system I was working on ;-{ We all make mistakes.

I still think you can get your system back but it may require more parts. Are you game to try to resurrect it?

See if you can connect your system to an external display like your TV using a DisplayPort (ThunderBolt) to HDMI adapter.

Did you replace the hard drive or add an SSD card to the logic board? How was the drive formatted and system installed? What are the diagnostic LEDs telling you?

So now I put the old hard back in and still not working. I originally put in 16 gb ram and a SSD. Both from OWC.

What are the diagnostic LEDs telling you? Do you have an external monitor you can use to test with?

by

@mayer I suspect display cable damage or incorrect re-assembly.

by

All 3 LEDs are visible and green.

I replaced the hard drive with a OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD 7MM. It is not formatted. I'm trying to boot off my old hard drive in a USB enclosure OWC provided. I do not have another display to test with it.

Hello try connecting the system to an external monitor if you have the connector cable and see if the display will come up. If it does then its d laptop's display that has issue.

Hello,

My first suspect with be the RAM. The RAM most likely is not compatible with the system. Try the old RAM with the SSD drive and see if the system works.

Update (09/17/2016)

Like Mayer said, how is the new hard drive formatted? Did you install the OS correctly? If you have your time machine backup, then try and reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS then use your time machine to restore your files back.

Revert back to old ram. Didn't solve the black screen.
