Phone randomly shuts down after screen and battery replacement

Hello, everyone.

So, here's the problem: the phone shuts down randomly after changing screen, battery and charging port.

I have replaced the screen because the glass was broken but the touchscreen still worked fine, so that shouldn't be the problem.

The charging port was replaced because I broke the connector by mistake while removing it (I checked the connector on the motherboard by taking a picture and zooming it and everything seemed fine).

The battery was changed for obious reasons.

Everything seems to work fine, but the phone randomly shuts down. While using it, the notification bar disappears all of a sudden, the phone shows the "loading sign" and then it shuts down.

If I try to turn it on again, it usually doesn't turn on, saying the battery is dead and I need to recharge the phone. If I try 3 to 5 times, it usually turns back on. If I connect the phone to the charger, it turns immediately (after pushing the power button) on.

What could be the problem?

When you connect your phone to a charger, will the battery charge? Do you get a charging symbol at all?

I'm torn on whether this is software or hardware. I'd attack software first, since its the easiest to fix. Put it into restore, then set it up as a new phone. This very possibly could fix the issue.

If not....then things get more complicated. Did you remove the logic board when you replaced the charge port? I'm thinking its possible that you may have board damage from putting the screws in wrong. Its a very common mistake and the only thing I can think of that would cause this from the repairs you did.

Pull the screws and make sure they match up with the iFixit guide on what screws go where. Let us know if that was the case.

I'll try to reset the phone and let you know.

The battery charges well and I can see the symbol on the screen.

I didn't remove the logic board when I replaced the charging port, it just was not necessary. All the screws are exactly is the same place: I used one of those screw holders, so I would make no mistake.

ok...not removing the board leaves less to troubleshoot. Make sure the screws are where they should be. It sounds like possible long screw damage.

by

That would be weird, wouldn't it? I am 99% sure (you never know) all the screws are in the right place.

By "long screw damage" you mean that damage you do when you invert the two lower screw that hold the big metallic plate on the screen connectors?

by

I'm taking a bet on either a faulty battery or one of the few little components right above the battery connector on the logic board have been chipped off while unplugging the battery for the first time.

With the recent iOS updates the systems aren't able to manage power supply efficiently anymore. We have uncovered a large number of iPhone 5's that all are experiencing the same issue. It sounds like you fried your motherboard. We have not found a fix for it. You are most likely in need of a newer phone that can keep up with the software/ firmware updates.
