Apple repaired my dead MacBook Pro by replacing main logic board, battery and hard drive and updating to Snow Leopard, all for free. Now my dvd player doesn't show in System Profiler and I get "no valid DVD drive" message.
Is this a good question?

take it back to Apple then....they are supposed to check that everything works before shipping

The drive must have worked for them to update to Snow Leopard but may have a loose connection. But I would take it back to Apple.
