Display/Lid Inter changeability between 13" Models?

I have a working mid-2012 model EMC 2554 with a dented screen lid and a non-working mid-2011 model EMC 2555 with a pristine lid - called Sod's Law I guess ?:O)

Are the displays on these two models fully interchangeable in terms of their spec and performance?

As an aside - is there any logic to the assignment of numbers by Apple? e.g. EMC 2555 is 2011 and 2554 is 2012??
