New Samsung 850 EVO SSD freezes on boot up

I upgraded to El Capitan prior to backing up of the original HDD which may have an effect or would it be the SATA cable.

I would start off by checking the systems firmware level. Review this Apple T/N: About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers make sure yours is at or newer than the listed level for your system.

How did you upgrade your drive? Did you use some cloning software or did you use the Migration function in the OS installer?

Do you have a case to hold your old HD which you can connect to your system (USB or FireWire)? If you do hold the option key with the drive connected when you restart the system so you can select the external drive. Now run Disk Utility to test out the SSD using Disk First Aid. Did you get any errors?

Yes I used super duper and run the DU test on the SSD as you outlined below and there were no errors. The firmware is a higher number which i assume is newer. So does that mean it is likely to only be the SATA cable

Sadly, I often find cloning software messes things up ;-{ Best to scratch the drive (reformat it) and then use the OS installer to install a fresh copy of the OS onto the drive at the end of the installer you are given a chance to use the migration utility to copy of the user account, apps & data from your old drive over. This is what I recommend for steps: How to Migrate OS X and Your Data to a New Drive.

I'm suspecting the clone image which you put onto the SSD is bad here.
