Why can't I change the direction of fan blades with my remote?

Someone told me that maybe the remote is out of sync with the fan but the controls are hidden and I don't know where they are or how to get at them. It's a 5 Blade Hampton Bay fan with light and remote.

Hi, Does your fan respond to the other remote buttons? Do you get a red light on the remote when you press the reverse button?
