Gwen, the switch is probably faulty and needs replaced, find a small appliance/vacuum repair shop and the can diagnose and give estimate for repair.

The switch works in every speed except for when you go to turn it off it won't stay in the off position
I have had this problem and have cured it by taking the end plate off (opposite end to mix-end) and adjusting the bottom single screw. I hope this helps..... Ormskirkdave
