To Repair or not to Repair

Heard a pop and my year and half old 60" LG plasma TV (60PB6650) screen went black. The power indicator light started flashing and the TV was making a clicking/ticking noise.

Hoping to get a ball park cost estimate to repair based on problem description to determine if I should pay to have it repaired or put the money towards a new TV.

Do you happen to know the model of the TV itself? The blinking light may be flashing in a pattern as a code to help you identify the problem!

Typically when tv's do this its the capacitors on the power board that will go, it is unusual on a tv so young though. if it is just the cap's then it should be only be a couple hundred if that to fix.

The model number is 60PB6650-UA. LG no longer makes plasma TVs. Will I have a problem getting parts for a discontinued TV?

Thanks for the feedback!

@schwartznate "The power indicator light started flashing" it will really help if you can tell us if there is a pattern to the blinking light. the "TV was making a clicking/ticking noise." sounds like the realys on your power board. you do want to open it up and check for leaky, diomed looking caps as wella s other damaged looking components. Post some images of your boards with your question, use this guide for that. It will allow us to see what you see. Start off by following the trouble shooting for the power failure.

After that check your power supply with a multimeter and see what you get

Lookikng at prices for the individual boards at places like this, I definitely think it is a worthwhile fix.

WAY over my head!

@schwartznate easy enough. Just replace the complete board.

How much for a board? Can you post a link to a YouTube video showing how it's done?

Took a look at the website. Thanks! What board would I need to replace?

by

I'd start with the power supply, but hard to say without testing it:-)

You can go on Youtube.com to watch videos to see if you can fix it for yourself. This may help if you want to see the parts maybe cheaper or more expensive to try to fix. However, if you have the patience to take the time to fix, it maybe cheaper. It maybe easier to buy another one if you don't want to go through the time and effort to fix it yourself.

I hope this help.
