My phone won't come on or even charge, why?

I dropped my phone and although out stayed on at the time. It finally died and when i plugged the charger up to it, it got really hot and started smoking. Do I need a new battery?

Yeah.. And I meant the smoke came out of the charger. But when I pull the midframe off the board by the usb port smells fried like a dead radio or stereo amp... Unfortunately.
