Motherboard Upgrade to something modern that will fit in this Unit?

This notebook is in exceptionally great shape, and everything works believe it or not. How ever, the motherboard is designed for windows vista/xp, and is no longer supported by microsoft update. Does anyone know if I could replace this motherboard with a more modern hp motherboard and have it still fit in this case? I have a hp dv6-6163cl, and it is a fantastic laptop, bought it new and never had a problem, use it everyday. I would be very pleased if a motherboard like that would fit in the dv6985se case. Any one know the answer to this or something similar or where I can look it up?

@bicsac you cannot upgrade the chipset, but you could potentially upgrade the processor and your memory. None of this will change the fact that this does not necessarry allow an OS update. Let us know what CPU you have, how much memory, size of hard drive etc. Have you tried to upgrade the OS to something past win XP? It appears as if there are win 7 upgrades possible for your HP. Most trouble will be getting the right drivers. So you want to check places like this for possible solutions. Also, check the HP site for a BIOS update.

Thanks so much oldturkey03 for your input, I very much value this reply. Here's a little history of what I've done so far. Have already installed gforce 256gb ssd. Did a complete migration of OS successfully. I backed up before and after. I then did a clean installed upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Reinstalled everything including all drivers from HP and for "7". Then found out this motherboard must be tatooted with Windows xp/Vista, because windows update will absolutely not update period because I get a response from microsoft that it no longer supports XP? Then I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro. Same issue occured. I have already ordered an "old/new" cpu upgrade, and the max ram I can use, incase I'm just stuck. My original choice and original quest for help on IFIXIT, is to find out if there is another motherboard that will fit in this case. I want to swap out all the guts of this laptop with modern components. Sounds crazy I know. But I love to tinker and to save this case....

Go to the HP website. They usually have a listing for the best upgrades that they recommend. If that doesn't solve the issue. What you need to know is the (socket) of your mother board, which they do list. And they (chipset) ,also listed. The chipset is what your looking to upgrade. Other great places to find the best chipset for your mother board. cnet, newegg, and Intel. This is the correct method to solve your issue. Finding a different motherboard to fit your case would be like finding that needle in the haystack without the magnet. Hope this helps

This answer is very helpful and understood. Thanks so much. I went to intel hoping to find an option for the cpu upgrade and all I can find is a record of it being their creation of course, however, they do not provide support for it as it end of life. What would be helpful now is finding somewhere that can show me some kind of table reference for this socket upgrade and then I can search for an upgrade. So if you can direct me there, I would appreciate it greatly. Or anyone else reading this. Again, Thanks so much for you help, insight and support.....
