Why is my laptop so slow?

I just bought an Acer Aspire E15 with an Intel core i5-6200 U with 4GB DDR4 Memory and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4 days ago. Everything can come to a almost complete stop from time to time to the point that i thought it hanged. Surfing Facebook is an absolute pain and even clicking the volume button can take up to 10 seconds just to change the volume. My 10-year-old Dell laptop can perform faster and since this is a newer laptop with higher specs i would think that the performance would be much different. I really don't know what the problem is, can someone please help?

Did you buy it used or new? If used then could be clogged up with junk from the last owner... If you bought it new, I would be marching in the store that you bought it at and demand a replacement or refund!

There's so many different possibilities that could be causing your issues & just as many ways to troubleshoot it and find your problem to put here in a reply. I suggest maybe doing a clean OS installation then going to the manufacturer's website & reinstall the driver's for that model etc... Or if your hard drive has the factory OS recovery partition on it you can do the clean install that way and it'll be back to the way it was when coming off the production line!

I bought it new. Would this be a processor problem or a RAM problem? I just checked my system and it shows out of 4GB of RAM only 1.85 is usable.

4GB of RAM is not enough RAM nowadays for Windows and applications. You should double that to 8GB of RAM, or max it out according to the specs of the laptop. The more RAM, the better.

Depending on the laptop if it was purchased new or used, the OS on it usually can contain a bunch of junk files that are corrupted and bogging your machine down. Backing up any important files and saving them on an external drive is crucial. You will want to save all you can then preform a clean install of the operating system. 4GB of RAM is plenty depending on how many programs you want to run at once. If you are only using chrome and maybe word at the same time then you are fine. Unless you are gaming and running an OBS capture system with chrome open along side discord or any other chat based system then you will want to upgrade your RAM. But if you PC is slow in general like I said if it is used then a clean install of the OS is what you need. Even if the person preformed a factory reset of the computer. That person old registry settings and keys are still in the system. Deleting every partition on the HD or SSD and clean installing the OS is going to give you the best result.

I have this same problem. ACER Es bought new. I can open word and type away, then sit back and watch the letters appear one by one. Opening pages and folders is a click - make a cup of tea - see what's on tv - come back sort of deal. It's beyond rediculous for a quad core processor machine. I don't use it for games or streaming video. I use it for work and writing. 4G RAM is more than enough for these simple processes so my gut tells me my machine is faulty. However, seeing that more and more people are complaining about the same issue, I wonder if it's limited to a certain model or if the issue is product-wide.

Model # NX.GKYSA.001 The fact that this model is less than 1 year old and no longer listed on Acer's main product page is worrisome.
