Replace old display with a hi-res display?

I am thinking about replacing my MacBook Pro's display with a new hi-res one. Will the LCD's from the current 15" MacBook Pros work? I'm thinking about the hi-res one (1680x1050). Otherwise I'll just stay with my current 1440x900. I want to use Final Cut Studio 3 but "Color" doesn't like resolutions lower than 1680x1050, and I don't want to plug in an external display to use Color.
