Swap LCD panel between G5 and Intel (edid changing)

Hi, I have read of swapping the 17" panel of iMac using an item that basically change the content of the EEPROM of the panel making it disguised for another one.

So, here is the question! I have a couple of panels from iMac G5 20", labeled LM201W01(ST)(B2). My iMac Intel 20" (A1207) uses a panel with exactly the same characteristics! So probably it would be interchangeable if the content of the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) EEPROM is copied from G5 panel to intel panel.

Could anyone having an Intel iMac 20" from 2006 give me the reading of his own EDID?

It is simple, just open the terminal and execute:

> ioreg -lw0 | grep EDID

And post here the result.

If it works, I'll be posting a guide about it! :D thank you

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

How do you reprogram that EDID chip?

Works on some laptop screens, I think (from fuzzy memory) that there are actually two on these screens.

The larger one is essentially the BIOS/firmware zone and the smaller x2 or x4 is where EDID is stored.

I just got an EEE 701 working in this way, also needed a minor jumper added but the main issue was that nothing worked until this crucial chip was changed.
