Digiter works fine - except when placed on device!

So I replaced a cracked digitizer on an iPad Air (which I've successfully done many times in the past) and I'm getting strange issues with the digitizer. If the screen is not physically touching the bottom half of the tablet, everything works great and touch responds like it should. If I push the screen flush with the tablet, it's like someone is frantically swiping all over the touchscreen. I imagine all cables are seated correctly, or it wouldn't work in the first place. Could there be a short somewhere that causes this type of problem?

Thanks,

B

Only a couple things this could really be:

Connection not seated properly. It happens with Airs. Disconnect them, clean with 99% IPA and reseat them.

Torn digitizer cable. Sometimes it happens. The only way to check is to try another digi.

Screw left where the digi/LCD connectors are. I've done it.

Bad digi.

Screw or other debris under the LCD.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I did try a different digi, with the same results. It just seems odd that if I lift the digitizier about 1\4" away from the tablet, everything works great. That wouldn't point to a torn cable, would it?

It very well could be a torn digi cable but if a 2nd one did the same thing, that kinda eliminates that.

Did you remove the motherboard when you did the repair?
