Why does my lawn mower act like it's not getting gas?

It has good spark, turns over, but won't stay started. It is brand new...used maybe 4 or 5 times.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

How long does it run and does it seems to be starving out?

janewarne you got whole lot of stuff going on here :-). First off let us know what make and model your mower is. Second, there are no more shut-offs on mowers, depending on the model so. Third let us know what you have tried. Did this just start all of a sudden? Pull your spark plug and take a look at the plug face. Better yet, take a picture of it and post that with your question. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that.

Just a couple of things to check, may or may not work:

- Does it have gas?

- There is typically a switch on the lawn mowers that cuts off gas supply to the engine. Has it been turned to 'Off' position by someone?

Where would this switch be located?

Someone told me the new Murrays dont have a filter...?

It would likely be on a side if there is one (close to a fuel tank or engine?). Probably would look something like this.

The only thing I know to ask is if you used 100% pure gasoline. New gas types that have ethanol can cause the issue you are talking about.

No ethanol in gas, and run for about 3 seconds then dies...
