Why does my 80GB only work when plugged into the wall charger?

My 80GB Classic works when plugged into the wall charger, but dies as soon as it's unplugged. When I connect it to the USB port on my MacBook, it won't mount—it just (weakly) flashes the Apple logo.

The battery sounds like it's dead. Try switching ports on your computer, (we've found that some are hotter than others)
