Ian Maxwell your Protege has a high pressure and a low pressure filter. both are on the fuel pump.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the rear seat cushion.

3. Remove the service hole cover.

4. Disconnect the fuel pump unit connector.

Then according to the workshop manual, disassemble in the order indicated in the table.
