Water spots/bubbles trapped between screen after "clean-up repair"

So I have what appears to be water spots trapped between layers of screen. A little history, brief contact with saltwater, I opened the phone, removed battery, brushed inside with distilled h2o, followed by IPA. I then waited a couple of days (rice & silica packs), re-assembled, powered up & best news, retained data (logic board saved, I think). BUT, I have these water bubbles/spots & seem to be worsening. What to do? What to replace?

That is water behind the back light area of the screen. To remove that you will have to separate the back light film which isn't really a good idea to do as dust can get in and there is a chance to damage the LCD.

You are best off buying a front screen replacement assembly.

Actually you can replace the back light part as a whole which is the cheapest and best solution IMO. Not sure if it's easy to separate the back light part easily.

Ben is right! Liquid went into the inside layers of the backlight (layers of paper, plastic film, etc.). |

Trying to lift the back light portion of the screen may lead to breaking the LCD. But if your screen is not usable, you can try it. If you break it then you can just replace it.

To try and separate the backlight portion, you have to remove the metal plate at the back of the screen. Then pry at the bottom of the screen (where the home button is at). Lift gently, dab any liquid with a lint free clothe, then reseat the screen. You can use a piece of scotch tape to help keep the screen in place then screw the plate back.
