screen has funny lines is this shattered?

a1342 screen issue

I have a customer who purchased a macbook a1342 from me about a month ago. They messaged in and told me her 16 year old son was using it, and all of a sudden the screen started acting weird.

this is the picture they showed me. In my experience this has always been caused from a shattered LCD even if the plastic screen itself isn't broken.

she's telling me her son said it wasn't damaged in any way, and he doesn't know what happened.

I'm wondering if anything else could cause this issue, and if so what?

The only thing I've ever seen that looks like that is an impact damaged screen.

Gee, i"ve never heard of a 16 year old kid not telling the truth. "well I wuz just sitting there and all of a sudden it just messed up dude, I didn't do nuttin', honest. How come I get blamed for everything?
