touch screen is not responding. not the digitizer.

I have a 3g 8gb iphone and the touch screen is unresponsive. to check if it was the digitizer I switched the unresponsive touch screen with a working one and that one didn't work in that phone either. I switched out the logic board for a working one and the touch screen works fine. I'm assuming that leaves the logic board from the as the problem. I don't believe there's been water damage as the 2 stickers on the logic board are white. I've searched the internet for hours for similar problems and have found nothing. could the touch screen ic chip be bad? if so can it be changed out with little difficulty?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to fix an iPhone logic board, if it is possible at all. You will need to replace it. Try eBay for a supplier.

Hi there,

noticed your question and just want to say I had very same issue. Most people talk about digitizer issues but this has nothing to do with it.

I did the same as you (replace by another screen) and it did not work either. The phone works well and eventually it will become unresponsive. Home/Power/Volume buttons all work, except it gets locked and it gets stuck there. I tried Vunlock, so you press volume button and it unlocks but the screen is still unresponsive. If I re-jailbreak it starts working again but sooner or later it will fail again. D@mn Apple they gave me a faulty refurb and now the warranty is expired. I believe this happens to many people but nobody knows how to fix it. I even tried to change General.plist to change Touch sensivity with no luck either...

jut wondering if it could be on the the 3 connectors for the screen... cold soldering or something... grrrrrr

this was more than a year ago... believe it or not I finally ended up sending an email to Steve Jobs at Apple and within 24 hours I was contacted by a kind company employee who offered an exchange out of warranty. I guess it all worked out for me. Good luck!

I have the exact same problem on my Iphone 3Gs. All buttons work but screen is not responsive to touching. Phone is only a month old. I have had it since November 19, 2011. There may have been a processing issue in the factory like a recall.

If it is only 2 month old, you should have some sort of warranty on it. I'd replace it.
