Kurt, could you give us some more details? The model if the iPad would really help. Also, has the iPad been repaired recently? Any drops or water damage?

It could be as simple as a cable came unplugged or a bad speaker or it could be more complicated. A little more information from you will really help out.

Unfortunately I do not have any information as the forgotten iPad is now lost and bricked.

The iPad Air 2 & original iPad Air share the same basic design. So you'll need to review the iPad Air's IFIXIT guides.

Most likely the headphone socket is damaged. Within it is a switch which disconnects the internal speakers. Unlike the MacBook's & iMac's which the sockets can sometimes be fix without opening, I have found the iPad's really need to be replaced. Here is the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: iPad Air Wi-Fi Headphone Jack Replacement and here is the part: iPad Air 2 Headphone Jack Assembly . If you have never opened a iPad it's not easy! And you can damage the display in the process if you don't have the correct tools.

I would recommend you bring it into an Apple Store or an Apple authorized services center.

Uhh, no. There is no problem with headphone jack, its the speaker.

But thanks anyway

No, its the jack! It directs the output to the speaker (Vs the headphones) via the switch which is broken.

I had the same problem. I tried everything with no luck. Recently I removed an old app I wasn't ever using and voila my sound came back.
