How do I update my OS from 10.3.5?

My software update says I am running the most up to date OS for my PowerBooKG4 17" titanium Mac but I've seen online that it can run a higher version.

Why would this be the case?

Is there a way to increase the performance of my PowerBook G4 if I can't update it any further?

There eight Titanium models. They have different maximum operating system so you need to tell us the speed of your machine to correctly identify it and tell you what it is.

On the system update. At the time your machine came out there were systems, such as 10,3, 10,4 and 10,5,

These were considered upgrades and you paid for them. After you had the upgrade, they then did updates to those systems and those were free. The updates maxed out and they then went to and new system.

Also after I know your exact machine and how much RAM it has, we can discuss hardware upgrades.

Mayer, thank you so much for replying so quickly!

OK here's what my PowerBook G4 says:

I'm running 10.3.5

FWIW I also checked my applications folder for a "last modified" date so I could get an idea of when I last used this computer. BTW I thought I'd lost my power cable long ago and it wasn't charged so I couldn't use it at all & wasn't concerned about that - but I found the cable yesterday!

It shows I did a wireless mouse update on 14 June 2005 - so it's been a while!

This folder also has very little in it & no longer any of the main programs I used on the computer before I uprgaded to my MacBook Pro

1.5GHz PowerPC G4

Memory: 512MB DDR SDRAM

(under Memory elsewhere it also says:

SODIMMO/J20STANDARD 512MB PC2700U-25330

SODIMM1/J23reversed EMPTY EMPTY

"MORE INFO"

CPU speed: 1.5GHZ

Memory: 512MB

Bus Speed: 167MHz

Boot ROM Version: 4.8.6f0

Is this enough info to help?

Thanks again

Lyn :)

I think this is your machine:

Apple PowerBook G4 1.5 17" (Al) Specs

Identifiers: 17-Inch 1.5 GHz - M9462LL/A - PowerBook5,5 - A1085 - N/A

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/po...

This machine will take system 10.5.8

by

Yes I believe you are correct.

However when I click on Software Update I'm told I am running the latest version. I can't seem to be able to get an update to 10.5.8

What should I do?

by

BTW FWIW

On the undersid of my PowerBook it says Model # A1085 Rated 24.5Vdc 2.64A Max (copyright 2004 Apple Computer Inc etc etc)

You are running the latest update version of 10.3. You need to upgrade the system to 10.5 then do the updates. You need a retail version of 10.5. Not one of the machine specific gray disks.
