Can I fix touch ID by replacing the home button shield cable?

Hi,

So I've *successfully* replaced a water damaged screen on my iPhone 6, retaining the original home button, shield plate and home button cables. I now have a functional phone and home button but with no touch ID (yes I have tried a hard reset and re-seating all the connections).

I cannot see any damage, but it was difficult to pry up the original shield cable from the old screen and if any damage occurred I think it was probably there.

The touch ID was still working in the old assembly after the water damage.

I have read varying accounts of whether replacing the long home button shield cable can restore touch ID, or whether this is part of the logic board / home button set that must stay together.

Can anyone clarify? I ask in particular after seeing the iFixit disclaimer for the "iPhone 6 LCD Shield Plate with Sticker and Home Cable" part, stating "Please Note: Replacing the cable will cause the Touch ID sensor to stop working".

Thank you.

If it's basically this then there is no problem replacing it.

No one can verify. We don't have your phone, not even a picture of the damage area. You have to try yourself.

However it is highly likely, since it still works in the old unit.

Hey Caitlin Corkhill,

Sadly if you replace the shield with the cable, it will stop the touch ID function.

No, just replacing the button itself causes this problem

He's talking about the cable on the shield, read better Tom and than reply.

I don't understand how a home button extension cable replacement would mean touch ID wont work.
