What is error code: 4SNS/1/40000000: TGOD-89.500

Hi,

This is a 2007 MacbookPro3,1.

Computer turns off randomly and doesn't stay on.

Called Apple and they say this is an obsolete Macbook and they don't offer support.

Apple Hardware Test spits out this error:

4SNS/1/40000000: TGOD-89.500

4SNS codes are supposedly sensor errors. The rest I don't know what it is.

Could someone please help me out? Thank you

This is a fan sensor error. Your machine is overheating and shutting down to protect itself from overheating.

Open it up, remove the fan and clean the vent. Check to see if the fan needs replacing.

I have changed your selection of machine and hope I got the correct one. Here's the guides for the left and right fans:

Thanks for the response mayer.

I know 4SNS means sensor, the following T means temperature, but doesn't the following G mean GPU? I'm wondering if this indicates something to do with the graphics processor, which are notorious for being faulty on this model of macbook.

Thanks!

Yes, this model (maybe, I can't tell your exact model from what you gave). Please go here and plug in your serial number (remove the battery to see it) and tell us your exact machine. Then we know if you have the 8600 nVidia GPU.

Is your display working correctly? Any artifacts, lines or other anomalies?

by

The display works fine. The computer just shuts off after a few minutes but otherwise works beautifully.

I wish there was a resource that told me specifically what the 89.500 and other potential codes indicate.
