Why can't I use my phone while it's charging?

I lost my note 5 and it ended up sitting outside in the rain. Initially it would not charge or run at all so I turned on my old s4 and let my note 5 dry out for 2 weeks with the Sim card removed for the last week.

My phone now works,

  • Camera is clear
  • All speakers work perfect
  • * Makes/Receives calls
  • * Speakerphone and Music play clear
  • Screen has no damage
  • All buttons work
  • Holds a charge
  • Doesn't get hot or overheat
  • Charges (only while powered off)
  • Works flawlessly when it is on and NOT plugged in.

The only problem is that if it's ON and you plug the charger in it will start rebooting, and as soon as it reboots and goes to turn on it will reboot again, so I have to charge my phone while it is powered off, which is a problem when it's my alarm for work. When it is on and not plugged in it doesn't freeze, reboot, or have any other working/running issues. I have also already tried doing a factory reset to see if it would help and it didn't. Could the battery be damaged, or possibly something else?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Sounds like there is a short coming from either the charger port assembly itself or the charging / power management circuit. You would have to open up the phone and clean up any remaining corrosion and water damage and also possibly change the charger port.

This is probably a very difficult process judging on the phone you have. Because I've opened a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 before which should be at least hard or harder than that one.

Okay, after posting this, today when I got to work my phone started to randomly reboot, drop calls, lose service, become unable to read the SIM card and by the end of my shift at work (6hours) it went into a boot loop and started to get hot like it did when my mom first tried to turn it on after it got water damage, so I did a manual forced power off. I just hope it isn't completely fried. It worked perfect for a week before this (other than the charging issue. .) Any thoughts?
